125 years of construction in Old East Dallas has brought an extraordinary collection of home shapes, sizes, and styles here, from stately old Swiss Avenue to the redevelopment of garden apartments along Gaston Avenue and Live Oak Street. Each of the neighborhood’s historic districts features a unique collection of houses and an equally amazing mixture of neighbors.

Neighborhood Pride Without Pretention

A seemingly endless parade of baby strollers, bikes, dogs, joggers and walkers enjoy Exall Park daily.

At East Dallas staple Jimmy’s, you’ll find delicious Italian sausage, meatballs, and sandwiches. Oh, and wine. Lots and lots of wine.

Circolo del Vino is a private tasting room at Jimmy’s.

The Old Monk, off Henderson Avenue, is clean but not pretentious, cozy but not confining, and the service is always friendly.

Behind Garden Cafe on Junius Square is a garden filled with corn, okra, peppers, squash, onions, basil, and whatever else makes for home cookin’. Dogs are also welcome.

Do yourself a favor and cozy up inside Bryan Street Tavern‘s warm and welcoming splendor, and you might just find yourself as in love as we are.

While at the Garden Cafe, be sure to meet the resident egg-laying chickens: Sunshine, Francesca, and Violet.
